Why Is The Rose So Pale

Goodness Dearest, canst thou reveal to me why
The Rose ought to be so pale?
Also, why the sky blue Violet
Ought to wilt in the vale?
What's more, why the Lark should, in the cloud,
So pitifully sing?
What's more, why from loveliest resin buds
An aroma of death should spring?
Furthermore, why the Sun upon the mead
So chillingly should glare?
What's more, why the Earth should, similar to a grave,
Be decaying and dark colored?
What's more, can any anyone explain why I, myself,
So grieving ought to be?
What's more, why is it, my Heart-of-Hearts,
That thou forsakest me?
